For the past 3 hours or so I've been searching around charity sites that are meant to help children and their families in less fortunate countries. Some looked pretty sketchy so I decided to go to World Vision, knowing that they can't possibly be out there to just take my money. Or if they tried to the whole world would know. I decided to start by browsing through all kids that you can sponsor. Now, they have an option to pick if you want to sponsor a girl or a boy. You can also choose the age, but at this point, that doesn't matter (the gender doesn't either, just keep reading). After going through about the first 50, I realized all I had seen where boys, and I had set the setting to "All" in the gender section. I then switched it to "Girls" and out of the 1400 or so children, under 300 were girls.
What is up with that?
Either everyone wants to sponsor a girl and that's why there are such a lesser amount than boys, or World Vision isn't putting up as many girls as they are boys. Why would that be? Are we still using the whole idea that boys are more important than girls? Or do people just want to sponsor girls more? Either way that's disgusting and now I don't know if I should sponsor a girl or a boy. (That is if I do decide to sponsor one) I mean, if I don't get an answer as to this number difference then I don't think I put any faith into World Vision.
