Opinion Piece

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

Abraham Maslow, has a theory, that many people believe. The Hierarchy of Needs states that the peak of our lives, only comes to few,a mere two percent that is. In my opinion, that is not true. Self actualization, the motivation to see one's own maximum potential, to live up to this potential. Two percent? Only a minuscule amount of our world is truly satisfied? Or are made out to be, by Maslow's theory? To me, that is ridiculous and wrong, anyone and everyone can do that, see their potential, and strive for it. Maybe some will not make it, but a lot more than two percent will see it. Spirits will be dampened and dreams will be ripped to shreds, how is this theory right in anyway?

I believe that everyone has the abilities to achieve self actualization. Anyone Can succeed, and anyone can go out there, achieve their dreams, all they will ever need is themselves, motivation to ourselves in not a challenge to acquire. Since when can I not succeed in fulfilling my needs? I can, I will, not one man's theory can stop me, and it should and will not stop anyone else. No one should be able to stand in anothers way and tell them that there is a ninety eight percent chance, that they will fail. He is wrong, and even studies have proven that this theory is just a "fools daydream" and it is not logical. It hurts when you first believe this is true, that he is right, and you will probably never be able to satisfy yourself. I believe this is untrue, because I believe in myself, and many others. If you want something, you go and get it, not some tiny part of us will be the only ones, who can live a life of full bliss. Self actualization in everyone of us. If you are happy with your life, then I believe you have reached life's peak.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, maybe mine has crossed multiple lines, maybe I have no idea what I am even trying to defend. To me, it felt like I was being told that there is such a great chance that I will not be who I want to be, or do what I want to do. I will,I will do what I want to do, and be who I want to me. This hierarchy seems so wrong to me, because I know I am motivated to be the best I can, I try to strive for my complete potential, and one day I will get there. So will more than two percent of us.
