Malcolm Gladwell

Point: Wealthy and poor kids learn the same in school. Although wealthy kids learn more at home because of all the opportunities that they are handed.

Something rude: Poor kids should stay in school longer in the summer because they won't learn as much as the wealthy kids. Parents should realize that since they are poor, it's making their children's learning suffer. Wealthy kids should go on their vacations to Germany and learn about their culture, while poor kids, who can't go to Germany, should stay in school. Because it's good for then.

My opinion: Thanks for trying to care about poorer families, but out of all the articles I have ever read that is the most insulting. I refuse to believe that since my family doesn't have the money to take a vacation, that I should have to stay in school for longer. That is not to my advantage. I don't care what Malcolm Gladwell says, I don't give a damn that he is a world famous writer. Or that he can charge $40 000 just for people to hear him speak. But I guess he doesn't have that "poor" issue. His children aren't at a disadvantage. So what gives him any right to try to say that poor kids are at a disadvantage? And also, how can he try to tell parents that they should understand this. Well, maybe he should understand how insulted I am. If I had any chance to speak with him, there would be no words. Wait three seconds and his head will hit the floor. Maybe then he'll have some sense knocked into him. I've been insulted before, but never so much. I probably shouldn't make such a fuss about this, but it's stupid. Sure, if you come from a home were you're wealthy and get many opportunities, then of course you'll learn more. I don't care if they want to extend the school year to benefit others. But when you say to only let the poor kids stay in school for most of the summer, then we have a problem. Maybe schools should just compile a list of students whose parents make less than $60 000 and tell them they aren't getting a vacation. For one, kids who come from poorer families are usually troubled kids who skip school anyway. Out of a classroom of 25, maybe 10 at the most would show up. Which is useless. Malcolm Gladwell is useless.

Point: Kids usually follow in their parents foot steps.

Something rude: You can try as hard as you want, but if you come from a home with only high school graduations working at McDonald's, chances are, you won't succeed either.

My Opinion: If I had any hopes in life to succeed, then at that moment they were crushed. I've has always been told that you can do anything if you wanted to. Well apparently, you can't. If you aren't breed into a house were you're parents have a stable job, then chances are you won't either. Thanks world. Just thanks. I don't want to work at Homesense for the rest of my life, but it looks like I should. Or maybe I could quit and work at a deli and cut my hands at least twice a week? I think I'll do that. Maybe I'll lose so much blood that I'll pass out and fall on a blade and die. Would you like that? Unintentional discrimination. If you haven't lived it don't comment. Keep your fucking mouth shut. I want to write a book, with my opinions. I probably won't make any money because I wasn't born too. For interest, this book will take everything you say and twist it until you can see how I feel.
